The Down for the Count Swing Orchestra is the UK’s hottest mini Big Band and vintage dance orchestra.
The band bring the sounds of the Swing Era back to life, with a contemporary and energetic show celebrating the best music of the 20th Century.
Described as “a breath of fresh air on the swing scene” (Twinwood Festival), the band have performed for audiences up and down the country including at The London Jazz Festival, Pizza Express Jazz Club Soho, Hideaway Streatham, Upstairs at Ronnie Scotts, and Twinwood Festival.
The band’s sensational show features big band favourites from the likes of Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey and many more.
Each arrangement of the classic tunes has been beautifully written especially for the band, showcasing their talented instrumentalists and vocalists, and remaining faithful to the vintage sound of the Swing Era.
The band are also never afraid to try something new and you can expect to hear anything from New Orleans grooves to 1950s jive thrown into the show.
In August 2017 Down for the Count released Let’s Dance, an album of big band dance music from the 1930s and 1940s, which was played on Clare Teal’s BBC Radio 2 show.
Down for the Count’s show is full of joy from the first song to the last – join them in their celebration of the best of vintage music, with a special guest appearance from Winchester’s very own The Spitfire Sisters.
This event is produced in partnership with Theatre Royal Winchester.
