Charlie Watkins is an improvising clarinettist, based in London. Somewhat unusually for a modern jazz musician, Charlie specialises in clarinet and bass clarinet, with stylistic influences ranging from early jazz to the avant-garde. The clarinet, Charlie says, is one of the most adaptable, yet underused, instruments in modern improvised music. He is determined to see it regain an appreciation across the UK.
Charlie will be joined by up-and-coming guitarist Nathan Brown. Nathan demonstrates his keen and innovative ear with his harmonically fascinating playing, whilst managing to pay homage to the phrasal voice of bebop. Strongly influenced by guitarists Jim Hall and Wes Montgomery, he navigates around tunes with both bebop and his own unique language.
