The Simon Allen Quartet
Simon Allen is one of the most exciting saxophonists on the UK jazz scene. Stan Tracey CBE's sideman for 8 years, and a member of Clark Tracey's award winning Quintet for 7 years prior to that, Simon's playing has been described as "joyously uninhibited" (Chris Parker). Simon's playing has also been featured in the bands of Laurence Cottle, Steve Waterman, Don Weller, Alan Barnes, and many more, including pop stars Robbie Williams, Beverley Knight and Katie Melua. Simon is a regular at many UK jazz venues including Ronnie Scotts' and the 606 jazz club, and he has toured the world with acts including Jamie Cullum, Colin Towns, Matthew Herbert and Gloria Gaynor. In 2014 Simon was appointed Head of Jazz at the prestigious Purcell School of Music.
Simon's band features UK jazz stars Laurence Cottle on bass (Bill Bruford, Claire Martin, Pee Wee Ellis), Tom Cawley on piano (Curious, Gwyneth Herbert, Peter Gabriel), and Mike Bradley on drums (Jim Mullen, Natalie Cole, Sax Appeal).
In 2011 the Quartet released their debut album (with guest Martin Shaw on trumpet) to much acclaim. "Any Minute Now" was voted as a top ten UK jazz album of 2011."
